"Elk's Watering Hole"

Peaceful respite the Lord provides
So removed from the trials of life
Where evil wars do rage
And each day is misery and strife

These great Elk for now serene
Immune to hot valley's below
Come fall and winter then heading down
In advance of the blowing snow

Time to renew the herds again
New bosses of harems past
Cows give birth to calves in spring
Completing the role in which their cast

These truly are magnificient Wapiti
This giant family of deer
Displaying proudly for all to see
Another creation by God made clear

Having lived in St. Regis Montana, I spent time in the high country hunting Elk. This scene is like many I have viewed and from those combinations of remembrances I painted
