"Intruder"

The Willamette Valley of Oregon is the grass seed capital of the world. The grass seed farmers are also very aware of leaving areas for wild life. Fence rows, wind breaks and small patches of woods for bird, pheasants and other small game. This is a perfect area for the beautiful Red Winged Blackbird. In the painting "Intruder", the foothills of the Cascades are visible in the distance. Coming closer in the upper right is the barns of the grass seed farmer along with a new crop of grass. It feeds sheep first then allowed to go to seed for early summer harvest. The cattails are wearing and starting to go to seed themselves as the Red Wing Blackbirds jocky for territory. Sometimes the brush and nesting material attractes one too many to the same sight and a shouting match ensues.
