The small butterfly known as the "Oregon Beauty" comes every summer without fail and loves the Purple Cone Flower or Echinacia. The Indians used the plant for medicinal purposes, and many still use it today to ward of colds and flu. I doubt if the Oregon Beauty cares, it simple is greatly attracted to the plant, especially when they first bloom, like the one in the painting here. We have two diffenent locations for the cone flowers including a white variety. The one in the picture was the first one to bloom as you notice others still in their pre-blossom stage. This is an adaptation from a photograph I took. The plant is just unfolding its delicate pink blossoms and emiting signals for the Oregon Beauty telling it that it is time. |
