"Survivors"

I was taking a break this summer in the afternoon and walked around the west side of my old farm house. I came upon this scene. The shadows were just right, the old paint on the siding was cracked and the original old Iris's had just popped out. The blinds on the window had come down crooked and I coulden't stand it. I just had to paint it immediately.
My old house was originally build in 1868. I have been living here since 1985 and had to rebuild every room on the inside and put siding on part of the exterior. This is some of the original surviving wood that was fastened with square nails. The surviving Iris's were here when we came and have long since lost their hybrid looks and reverted back to what they originally were.
All in all it is a wonderfully peaceful picture into the past.
