"Herod's Palace"
Herod's Palace is located inside of the walls of Old Jerusalem in what was known as the "Upper City" across from the "Temple Mount" It was King Herod who built the lower parts of the "Wailing Wall" as it is known today. He erected the older part of the supporting wall around 40 BC. It took eight years to pile the earth to make the large Temple plateau. Solomon had already begun with the layout of the square. But under Herod it doubled in size to an area of 140,000 square metres.
In this painting of "Herod's Palace" you will notice the only remaining tower of three ajoining towers, which is still preserved today. This area is known as the "Citadel" along side the Jaffa Gate and the site of the Herodian Palace.
Jesus was brought here before Herod where his soldiers mocked and ridiculed Him. They put a kingly robe on him and sent Jesus back to Pilot. He was subsequently crucified according to divine plan, and raised himself from the grave 3 days later. After spending time with his disciples he ascended into heaven in front of more than 500 witnesses. He will come again in like manner the Scriptures declair.
The question is, are you ready to meet the risen Lord and Savior?
